Earlscliffe, sometimes spelled Earlscliff, is located on Ceanchor Road, also sometimes spelled Ceannchor Road, in Baily, Howth, Co. Dublin.

Please use the entrance on Ceanchor Road and not any alleged entrance on Carrickbrack Road (as sometimes erroneously shown on online Maps).

Note: Ceanchor Road is sometimes spelled Ceannchor Road. Each spelling can be seen on the two street signs at the end of road, and shown below.

By coach or car

Earlscliffe is located on the Howth peninsula, approximately 15.8 km north-east of Dublin city centre.

  1. From Dublin city centre, travel along the Dublin Road towards Howth.
  2. At Sutton Cross, turn right into Greenfield Road (R105) and continue into Carrickbrack Road (L86).
  3. About 1 km past the entrance to Howth Golf Club (signed on the left), turn right into Ceanchor Road.
  4. Earlscliffe is at the end of Ceanchor Road on the left (white pillars with black gates marked 'Earlscliff').

Ceanchor Road is a cul-de-sac and coaches cannot turn at the end of the road. Coaches should turn at the side road branching right about 140 metres from the start of Ceanchor Road, and visitors should alight there.

By train

Travel by DART to Howth station (Howth line), then take the number 6 bus heading towards Abbey Street Lower. Alight at bus stop 714 Ceanchor Road.

By bus

Earlscliffe can be reached by the number 6 Dublin Bus service from Abbey Street Lower in Dublin city centre. Alight at bus stop 701 Ceanchor Road. The number 6 service typically runs about hourly.

Alternatively, take the H3 Dublin Bus from Abbey Street Lower, alight at Howth Summit, then walk about 15 minutes down Carrickbrack Road towards Sutton. The H3 service typically runs about every half hour.

Admission

The garden is not currently open to the public and there are no formal garden tours around Earlscliffe for the foreseeable future.
